T-Mobile G1 (Google Android) mobile phone

Good to see the T-Mobile G1 announced. I wanted to get an OpenMoko phone, but the lack of camera (and MMS?) means one of my most common uses is ruled out. Great that HTC who make the G1 have gone with a modern keyboard design like I proposed a while ago too :)

Tigra from nVidia looks good, hope to see some actual models out in the future.

GMail addons

Increasingly I'm online away from offline apps like my Thunderbird and Firefox, which means I don't get my settings and addons that I've setup in Thunderbird as I use GMail online. What Google really need to launch is an addon mechanism for their GMail and other services, in the same way that Facebook support users adding apps to their profile etc. So wherever I login.. I get my setup!

youTube links

Why are youTube links not the name of the clip? Take http://youtube.com/watch?v=HiUwKQzNXA8 for example, when it could have been http://youtube.com/watch?The_Cameron_Sneeze_Clip ! One of them lets us know what we are getting when we click on it in an email from a friend etc.

The Paradox of Choice - Why More Is Less

Watched an interesting presentation at Google by Barry Schwartz, The Paradox of Choice - Why More Is Less. A couple of good choices is better than 50 good choices, too much to reivew. Schwartz builds on the psychoanalysis and PR understanding that Edward Bernays pioneered in the 1920s after helping with propaganda spin for WW1. Bernays was most famous for getting women to start smoking by promoting it as a power issue and getting women to call cigarettes "Torches of Freedom" in a parade in New York.

GMail search improvement request

Advance the search functionality, so it is as good as google.co.uk. Including "did you mean" and other neat additions. For instance, I type "chamnix" and "No messages matched your search", even "broadening my search" didn't pick up on any with the correct Chamonix spelling. Using the "Advanced" search doesn't come up with any either.

The search is just too basic for my needs presently! ;)

GMail scans for viruses after we open the email?

This seems a bit odd, I send an email with GMail, I go into my Sent folder 5 hours later and open the email. Then GMail says "Scanning for viruses ..." before I can download the attachments... surely it should just scan and store a flag that it has been checked? Instead I'm kept waiting 5 secs per attachments before I can download them!
